Deadpan Hollywood

A soggy, entertaining and dirt-covered journal from the trenches of independent film production in Hollywood. Me, well, you might've seen my name on screen in some movies. I'm not improvised. This is the real, above-the-line reality.

Numbers.

This week has been all about a budgets.

We’re trying to schedule and budget a documentary project that falls under what is named “Verité” style of filmmaking. It can also be called “observational”. This means, we don’t really know what the hell will go on and when and for how long. It will depend on the characters. It’s a little disconcerting if you must know… Am I budgeting for 10 weeks? 14 weeks? 20 weeks? What’s the deal? I’ve never done one of these budgets. We’re presenting it tomorrow to our “studio” and we’re a little bit worried that it will seem to high for them.

I guess we shall see.

Also, this morning, our big actor we went to for our sexy thriller turned out to pass based on the fact that he’s “working on a very similar project already”. We found out this is not the case. Not similar at all. Only in genre. BUT, all is good. Our Domestic distributors are still cool with it, and we’re going to go to somebody actually bigger. British-style bigger.

As in, if he remotely wants to do this, we’re in for a wild ride…

We’ll see.

Cheerio.
