Deadpan Hollywood

A soggy, entertaining and dirt-covered journal from the trenches of independent film production in Hollywood. Me, well, you might've seen my name on screen in some movies. I'm not improvised. This is the real, above-the-line reality.

THE WAIT

It’s been a while. I know. I thought writing here while busy would be easy. It isn’t. And then I thought the opposite would be easier -as in, when things were not as busy- would be easiest. It wasn’t. Truth is, Deadpan was started for a reason. And it must continue.

The biggest motivational hurdle here has been what has been happening since the last almost 2 years now. That one movie I was writing about? (Read below please) The one with THE actress? I mean, what can I say, it has suffered changes. Major ones. As in, the actress is no longer on it. She went on to accept a role in a TV show that many of you will be seeing soon on Network TV but that will probably not last a full season. I suspect at least. I might be wrong. Oh, and the director who commanded the script to her and got her attached? MY FRIEND the director? Well, I had to fire him. Because, that’s how shit flies sometimes in this town. It wasn’t easy. Or was it? Maybe I’m lying to myself and it was the easiest thing I could’ve done. History will tell. The point is, it is now a completely different project. And although it’s far from dead (unlike others) and we’re aiming at shooting in November, it somehow now is not at the top of my priority list.

The project we’re now really excited about (for once!) is a project that has potential to make some serious political change. At least a serious open discussion about a subject matter that we believe is very important and to some degree tragic.

You see, we’re making a documentary film and if it all goes through, it will be the most important film of our career. At least to date. I’m sure of it. We’ve already been given money for the development part actually. We’ve spent many months researching and investigating. Money that came from a company that in our wildest dreams 3 years ago would I have thought we’d be in business with. At the end it is proven, that, no matter the subject matter, no matter the style or type of film; if you have a good story, a good team, and if you know how to sell an idea, you should be able to pretty much do anything. THAT, is as simple and as complicated -all rolled into one- as independent Hollywood gets.

Our treatment has been submitted, and now is in the hands of some big shot at this company. Hereto, begins THE WAIT.

Some of you might know about THE WAIT. But it’s an institution in this town. Oh yes.

I’ll be updating much more about this. And if we go forward, I’ll be including all about what we’re doing and where we’re going on this documentary journey. I won’t forget about the other stuff either.

Peace. Literally.
