Deadpan Hollywood

A soggy, entertaining and dirt-covered journal from the trenches of independent film production in Hollywood. Me, well, you might've seen my name on screen in some movies. I'm not improvised. This is the real, above-the-line reality.

The way this works, is that shooting a movie is actually starting to feel like the easy part of the process. It shouldn’t, but it is.

All morning today dealing with our legal advisor on how to approach a deal we have with our “co-producer” on our historical period film. We still believe that he can deliver the goods (cross our fingers) but we also have to deal with the demands he wants from us in exchange. You see, we have an option to a book. We want to make the book into a movie. We control said option for another year. This person wants to maybe bring somebody on board (mind you, somebody big and we’re all for it) but in exchange, he wants almost full approval rights over the option agreement that WE negotiated for 6 months. Uhhh, no buddy. Not gonna happen. So we have a meeting today with him to discuss all this and depending on how that goes, we will be going in one direction or the other. All in a good day’s work.
