2010, it opened with a yawn. What’s up with everybody taking long freaking holidays when it matters the least?
So I’m negotiating an urgent contract with a big sales company and I’m told the following:
“Yeah, our lawyer is in Australia, you know, it’s summer down there, so the holidays are longer. He will be out of pocket until January 15th.”
Twenty points for effort.
One has to protect himself in this industry of sharks, and I brought these people a project that we will be getting into production soon, and now it turns out they are “holidaying” our contract for this. Obviously, I won’t allow it to happen. But wow, I’m impressed.
Hollywood works in mysterious ways…
There’s suddenly an opening for our company to be involved with a very commercial project (actually the one I’m referring above) that came out of the blue through our relationship with the project’s director. This happening, at a time when our comedy that had so much thrust late last year has suddenly hit a speed bump. Now, at the speed we were going with it, a speed bump means we are barely at walking speed now, but listen, at least we are moving forward. I just fear that another one will have us walking in reverse. Fairly frustrating to say the very least.
I’ll be commenting on how this works with regards to the new project, but basically, our company will be providing development and creative work, plus, finalizing a commission-based deal with the international sales company that was looking for a big project like this. When I say big, I don’t mean Avatar by the way, no, I mean that in our production world, a project like this is measured by it’s potential and budget. This one’s being negotiated but will be around the 10 to 15M USD area. For us, that’s big. I believe this one can be very commercial and we are all for getting this going right away.
Once I know what’s up (don’t want to jinx) I will be bringing the lowdown on such a deal. It’s actually fairly simple. Or is it?
G’day. Mate.
