Deadpan Hollywood

A soggy, entertaining and dirt-covered journal from the trenches of independent film production in Hollywood. Me, well, you might've seen my name on screen in some movies. I'm not improvised. This is the real, above-the-line reality.

Darkness.

Humans feel comfortable thinking in round numbers. The number ten contains in itself a duality: everything and nothing, life and death, the number one and the number zero. Most landmarks are measured against this number, a multiplication or a fraction of.

As such, today’s tenth anniversary of September eleventh is deep in every way possible. I will leave it for each one to reflect (and grieve) in their own way but I do want to say that it is a big reason why I’m a film a producer and it marks a decade where daily I’ve been reminded that we should always find things to say. Never leaving things unsaid is wise if you ask me.

Movies and the bullshit process behind them feel unimportant in a day like today but as human expression, as direct language of who we are, it could be that movies (and art!) are some of the most important things we can say about today.

So yes, I think of the victims today. Everywhere. Worldwide. In New York and beyond.

Peace.
